No painting can compare to the beauty of a real canvas painting. Hand-painted canvas paintings are always far more impressive than posters or prints. Artwork are especially an asset to any décor when professionally stretched on canvas. Wagtmans' artworks are painted on premium canvas. The nice white top layer of the canvas has a consistent structure so your painting is beautifully displayed. Paintings with backgrounds are painted on white pre-treated canvases (a kind of primer for proper adhesion and colour reflection).
All paintings are created with high-quality acrylics. Acrylics are a fast-drying paint that are made up entirely of acrylates (a plastic dispersion). Acrylics can be thinly applied and/or diluted with water for a watercolour effect. However, acrylic paint is usually applied in thick layers, and the end result is very similar to that of oil paint. Wagtmans prefers acrylic paint because it dries much faster than oil paint and is virtually odourless.
The frame is composed of wooden slats. The canvas is stretched on this wooden frame. Notches located on the inside allow for the canvas to be tensioned by wooden pegs, should that ever be necessary. Of course, the canvas is already tightly stretched when delivered.
Width of the wooden frames
Wagtmans standardly paints on canvas with a wooden frame that is 3.5-cm wide (3D canvas). This provides extra strength and it gives your canvas an opulent look.
