The painting process

Hand painted portraits

Painting is shifting gears; you change course if a better way of working emerges, if the painting calls for it. Painting is concentrating while retaining an open mind, following your intuition.

All paintings are created on heavy-weight pre-treated cotton. Canvases are stretched on extra-thick wooden slats.

Each painting begins with a unique sketch that is created by following intuition. It is not uncommon for this process to lasts for weeks.

For the finishing touch, the painting is signed and then sealed with a high-gloss varnish layer for protection.

Passion for workmanship!

"Drawing and painting have always been my great passion. I drew a great deal as a child, and later I got into painting. I love to experiment with multiple colours and especially with thick relief techniques which give the painting an extra dimension".  [Frank Wagtmans]

Each painting is the product of attention to detail and care for quality. This applies not only to the materials, but also to the entire painting process. Wagtmans uses only the finest paints and canvas. He also takes the time to give each artwork refined details and a lovely finish. This is what provides the painting its richness, and it makes every artwork one of-a-kind. And it shows!
