Geisha no. 24 is a refined portrait in which elegance, serenity and rich decorative detail come together. The painting has been carefully built up in multiple layers of paint, creating beautiful depth and an almost tangible sense of richness.
The warm golden background features pronounced texture and relief. Depending on the way the light falls across the surface, the gold continually changes in appearance, revealing new nuances, reflections and subtle shadows throughout the day.
The black kimono creates a striking contrast with the geisha’s pale face and is richly decorated with floral motifs in white, blue, red and gold. Her hair ornaments and the refined golden details further enhance the luxurious character of the work. At the same time, her lowered gaze gives the portrait a sense of serenity and understated beauty.
The sides are also an integral part of the artwork. They are fully painted and finished with a distinctive craquelé effect, allowing the painting to be hung as it is without the need for additional framing.
With its size of 100 × 70 cm, Geisha no. 24 has enough presence to give a room character, while remaining perfectly suited to a smaller wall or an interior where a monumental work might feel too dominant.
An elegant and richly executed portrait in which gold, texture and stillness come together.
